Attendance Tips

Parents, you can help promote good attendance by using these tips from Attendance Works. For more ideas, check out their website at www.attendanceworks.org
  • Establish and stick to basic routines (going to bed early, waking up on time, etc.).

  • Talk to your student about why going to school every day is critical and important unless they are sick. If your child seems reluctant to go to school, find out why and work with his or her teacher, school adjustment counselor, or administrator.

  • Come up with back-up plans for who to turn to (another family member, a neighbor, or fellow parents) to help you get your student to school if something comes up.

  • Reach out for help if you are experiencing tough times (e.g., transportation, unstable housing, loss of a job, health problems, etc.) that make it difficult to get your student to school. Other parents, your student's teacher, school adjustment counselor, administrator or school nurse can help you problem-solve or connect you to an appropriate resource.
  • If your student must be absent, work with his or her teacher to make sure your child has an opportunity to learn and make up the academics missed.
